NEONATOLOGY

The Department of Neonatology was established in 1992 and is the first in the province. Dai Ailing and Niu Shiping served as the department directors. It has developed into one of the largest neonatal specialties in Shandong Province. There are 25 doctors and 64 nurses, including 1 doctoral candidate, 12 own master's degree, and 8 with the title of associate senior or above. There are 75 beds. There are five subspecialties such as premature infant treatment, respiratory, nutrition, circulation, and neurology in neonatology filed. It has formed a neonatal diagnosis and treatment health care system integrating intrapartum first aid to comprehensive management of very low birth weight infants, advanced treatment and health care, post-discharge education and rehabilitation and outpatient follow-up. The department has established the only critical neonatal treatment center and transport center in Zibo, with a radiation radius of 100 kilometers.

Since its establishment, the Department of Neonatology has actively carried out new technologies to fill the gap in the city and reach the advanced level in the province. Pulmonary surfactant combined with non-invasive ventilation for the treatment of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) for newborns, Exchange transfusion of blood via peripheral artery and vein, Invasive airtight closed suctioning, Preterm infant development support care, Umbilical vein catheterization, Umbilical artery catheterization, and Invasive blood pressure monitoring are all the first technologies in the city. In recent years, the department has carried out bedside neonatal bronchoscopic diagnosis and treatment, percutaneous non-invasive blood gas monitoring, dynamic brain function monitoring combined with S100βprotein testing to predict brain damage in premature.

Striving to become a provincial critical neonatal treatment center and a provincial key discipline. The department of Neonatology will be guided by the development plan of the hospital, with discipline construction as the primary goal, academic research as the breakthrough point, and clinical development and academic exchange as the platform. Combining clinical and health care, integrating clinical diagnosis, research and teaching, the department will comprehensively be improving the level of discipline construction, reaching the provincial leading domestic advanced level.
